We have a youth choir coming through Zionsville, from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, who will sing at Zionsville UMC on Sunday, March 26th.
We need people willing to house these youth on March 25. Please email Laura Brueckmann (Laurabrueckmann@me.com) if you are able to host. Please tell her the number of male or female youth you are able to host as we cannot mix the two! Currently we do not think any meals will be involved other than breakfast on Sunday. You will pick up your guests on Saturday evening and come to church Sunday morning!
The Epworth Choir of the First United Methodist Church
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio
The Reverend Walter Swearengin was hired in 1928 as Associate Minister and Minister of Music. He organized the first “youth” choir of the church in 1929, The Wesleyan Choir, made up of boys and girls from 4th through 8th grades. Later in the year the waiting list for the choir was so great, that he added a primary grades choir known as the Junior Carolers, and the Tiny Tots choir.
William Schutte, in 1934 formed the high school choir, which eventually became known as the Epworth Choir. The Epworth choir began its summer camping in 1963. The first trip was in 1965 to Detroit on a short weekend. The Choir made its first annual Spring Break tour to Nashville in 1966 and has continued to tour to locations such as Dallas, New Orleans, Florida, Boston, New York, Chicago, and Washington DC ever since.
The current Epworth choir, made up of 7th through 12 grades, is one of four winning choirs of the Jubilation competition for church choirs of Northeast Ohio sponsored by WCLV classical radio in Cleveland. They have placed twice already in the past 4 years.
The choir sings every Sunday morning for the 8:30 service at our church from September through May.
