Spotlight Shines on You “Older Adults”

It was approved by the UMC General Conference, April 2008 that we observe an annual Older Adult Recognition Day. The day is to recognize and celebrate the gifts, talents and contributions older adults make within and beyond the local church. This day should also provide our congregation with the opportunity to learn more about the issues and concerns related to aging and older adulthood. It is written in Genesis 18: 1-8: 21: 1-7, “Older persons are of worth to God.” We have selected July 19th to observe Older Adult Recognition Day!

The celebration will start with the 5:30PM service on Saturday, and continuing Sunday, at both the 9AM and the 11:15AM services. Pastor John has agreed that SAM spearhead this eventful celebration. We have put together a great program including music and hymns that you will enjoy, as well as a terrific message and sermon.

Older persons today enjoy learning and continued growth in their knowledge and spirituality. Although our physical bodies decline, our spiritual selves will always mature. Here is an opportunity to say a special “Hello” and “Thank You” to those persons who have paved the way and provided the opportunities, some enlightening times and experiences on being older, Spiritual Christians. Their experiences bring wisdom and insight to our congregation and we are asking you to share. Mature years bring a special opportunity to recognize and redefine our goals.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!

Wow – what a Sunday! The reception for my retirement was absolutely wonderful. There are no words that can express what it meant to me. The Thomas Kinkade picture is a gift I will always treasure. Knowing how much I love seeing the office as God’s Living Room – the picture’s inscription - “come into my living room” - is perfect.
As I step away from being your Church Administrator, I wanted to again thank you all for years of love, prayers, support and trust! These past twenty years have been an adventure with God and every day I stand in awe of how He has blessed me in my work and in my life. The prayers you offered for my family during times of need carried us through those times of trial. Thanks also for loving my granddaughters and my mom. They have been surrounded by your love and care. It means the world to me! (Note: I will still have pictures to show you!)
As I look over my years of service, the memories begin to flood back…some happy, some sad, some funny and some just plain hard work! The church on Oak Street holds many memories as our family worshipped there for over twenty years and where our daughter was married. Oak Street also holds memories of the giant snake in the kitchen, bats during wedding rehearsals, baby ducks in the courtyard and yes --- ministry that was blessed by God! The night the possibility of a total relocation was mentioned was truly a God moment. From that night on we knew the project we were to pursue.
Being a part of the praying, planning and the physical move of our church was a once in a lifetime experience! From the groundbreaking through construction was like watching God’s hand at work. The late night prayer walk stands out as a moment when the ZUMC family gathered and took a giant step of faith as we decommissioned the Oak Street building and walked down the trail for a midnight prayer service to open the new building. I KNOW God has BIG plans for ZUMC!
I have had the privilege of working with many great staff people over the years – each one dedicated to the ministry of Jesus Christ. Now is no different – you are very blessed to have the staff you have to move into the future.

My years of service in the office have come to a close, BUT my years of service ahead are an open book. I am excited to see what God has in store. I look forward to working with you all as part of the ZUMC family that reaches out to others and shares the love of Christ and the hope He has for the world!
It is not good-bye --- it is hello!

All my love, Sue Forry

A Message from Sr. Pastor, John Wantz

"We are so sorry to come to you this morning with some sad news. We know Pastor Scott shared a wonderful message today and that your worship experience was uplifting. That's what it's all about, so please carry the message home. Due to something we have been dealing with privately becoming public there is a need to share with you a current challenge so rumors and misinformation aren't being passed along in our church family. The short message is that Tami is dealing with a serious illness related to the digestive system. She is currently under the care of a wonderful team of doctors and is encouraged by her treatment plan. Since Tami is a very private person she asks that you respect our privacy at this time. She will determine what and when to share. We hope you will understand.

A blessing is that we are still able to enjoy a planned vacation during the month of July. At this moment our worship most likely involves a walk on the beach, holding hands, and thanking God for his wonderful gift to all of us called Life. Please know that we continue to feel honored to be one of your pastoral families and that we always hold you in our prayers."

With Love,
Tami & John

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How You Can Help!

Aside from your prayers there is something else you can do! John has mentioned that written encouragement has been a source of comfort to Tami and has lifted her spirits. The entire ZUMC family is invited to write Tami a note, letter, or a card of encouragement to show her our love, concern and support during this difficult time. All correspondence is due to the office no later than JULY 14th! The entire collection will then be mailed to their condo where they are vacationing. The hope is that she will be swamped with well wishes and support and spend her final week of vacation having her spirits lifted for the challenge that awaits her upon returning home. This is an opportune time to fulfill ZUMC's new mission statement: Lifting the human spirit to be touched by the Holy Spirit. Please do your part. If you have any questions, please contact the church office.
