“Power Lab”

Vacation Bible School!

We’re gearing up for another great VBS! Our theme this year is Power Lab: Discovering Jesus’ Miraculous Power and will be held June 16-20th from 9-12. We have three ways for you to sign your child up for this great scientific adventure. There will be a registration table set up on May 4th in the children’s wing. You can download the forms from the church’s website. Fill out the form in this month’s Messenger. Do you, grandparents, or youth want to be a part of the fun? We would love to have you join us too! You can find a volunteer form on the church’s website, stop by the church office or the registration table. See you at the Lab!

Crafts, games, music, drama and lots of fun learning about God is the formula for a great time this summer as the Children’s Ministry Team presents “Power Lab” during Vacation Bible School, June 16-20. You can register your children and volunteer to join in on the fun at sign-up tables in the main hall on April 20th and 27th, and on May 4th. and volunteer forms are also available for download here on the ZUMC website, www.zumc.org. (Click on “forms” at the top of the page.) hope your family will start the summer with us at VBS!

Be thankful!Help others!Be brave!Live forever! Tell others about God!
These are the daily messages of Vacation Bible School, Discovering God’s Miraculous Power, planned for the week of June 16-20.Our Children’s Ministry Team is committed to providing a positive experience for the children of ZUMC and our surrounding community. You can support this ministry in the following ways:
If you haven’t already done so, register your children for VBS. (Registration forms can be turned into the church office, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
Pick up an extra registration form to share with your neighbor’s children, and encourage your children to invite their friends to share this experience.(We’d love to have all registration forms in by June 1 so we can have “official” t-shirts for everyone, but don’t let a passed deadline keep you from signing up.)
Check out the donation boards and contribute what you can.We need a variety of supplies/snacks to keep God’s kids engaged and empowered!
Volunteer! You don’t have to be a Mom of young children to be part of VBS! Wouldn’t it be a great testimony to the children of ZUMC to see people of all ages involved in this summer celebration? If you can alter your work schedule for one or two mornings that week, we would love to have you join in the fun.(You might just strengthen your own faith, too!)
Come to the Sanctuary at 10:10am on June 15 for a Parent Preview of VBS.
Plan to attend VBS Sunday, June 22, for an extra-special worship service featuring our faith-fortified kids.

Go Green – Go Missions!

ZUMC GOES GREEN!
In the beginning, God created everything and everything in its place to give his creation, “us,” the perfect world to live in. Life-sustaining rain – not acid rain….Life-sustaining plants – not toxic, chemical diseased plants….. Life-sustaining air to breathe – not air filled with pollutants.
This month’s Mission of the month is: REDUCE – REUSE – RECYCLE
While this may not be an organization like Red Bird, God did not make the earth disposable. He put us in charge over everything. What a loving gift, and an even more awesome responsibility. How are you doing with your stewardship of the earth? Here’s what ZUMC is doing and how you can help:
The Abitibi Bin: It likes anything paper, but nothing cardboard, plastic or phone books. Bring your things on Sunday mornings or any other day. The big yellow bin is in the back of the West side parking lot. You can’t miss it!
Ink Jet Cartridges: At the welcome center is a box for you to dispose of your used cartridges. The funds raised are used to help the Alaska Mission teams.
Soda Pop Tabs: ROCK kids are collecting the pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. They want to collect 1,000,000. Yes! 1 million tabs. Put them in a Ziploc bag and drop them at the Welcome Center.
Campbell’s Soup labels: Cut out the bar code and the picture of the Campbell’s Kid. Deposit these in the Mission Team mailbox in the West hall. These are sent to Red Bird Mission to purchasing buses/vans, and educational items.
Here’s some more… Roberts Park – Food Drive, Brightwood Community Center – Clothing drive, Toiletries for women’s shelter, Recycle your talents–volunteer to help with Habitat! Joy in the Harvest needs drivers, or recycle your money by donating to your favorite Mission!

We’re excited! For 2008 we have been chosen as the lead church again for the Apostle’s Build – Habitat for Humanity. We believe the house will be in Lebanon and we will begin the end of June. Keep watching for details and volunteer sign-up information.

We would love to have you join our team. It’s not hard work, we have a lot of fun, and we’re helping you help people. What could be better? Join us each 3rd Tuesday - 7:00pm at the church.

Shadrach will be graduating from dental college this May. He will be giving the sermon at both services on Sunday, May 18. After the 11:00am service, we’re going to have a party and you’re invited to celebrate with Shadrach and his family. Mark your calendar!

April is the designated month for our annual Brightwood Community food drive. Please bring your food items (canned or dried) and place them in the East and West halls. Let’s make this year’s collection the most successful ever. It’s such a worthy cause.

For your donation, we received thanks from the International Leadership Institute where more than 10,240 leaders were trained in 2007. ILI Alumni now lead in more than 50 nations speaking more than 200 languages.

Thank you also to those that participated in the recent Brightwood Community clothing drive. You donated and we purchased: 36 pairs of pajamas, 5 pairs of slippers, 8 used coats, 4 sets of hats and scarves, 2 polar fleece jackets, 1 new pair of boots, 5 pairs of mittens, 9 hats, 10 pairs of men’s slippers, and 31 adult and kids coats.

GREEN is the chosen color for the Mission Team: Go Green – Go Missions!
