Hurricane Relief Mission Trip to Slidell, Louisiana June 7 - 12, 2010 Cost: $100
This trip is open to individuals 13 years and older who want to make a difference rebuilding the lives of families still suffering from the effects of four hurricanes in the past four years. All skill levels are welcome! An extra incentive is we will get to see and work with our very own missionary, Susan Arnold!
Also, we need someone to cook for our group. So if herbs and spices are more up your alley instead of hammers and paint, we have the perfect job for you! For more information please contact Jeanne Chapman (jchapman@zumc.org). Space is limited.
There is a table in the narthex today for sign-up for Interfaith Hospitality Network from March 7-14. We need help with overnight hosts, activities, drivers, and food. If you have ever done this you know what a blessing it can be and if you haven’t come find out. As we help those in Haiti let’s also remember that the poor and homeless are always with us and to be like Jesus we must do unto the lest of these.
Help support the ZUMC Bell Choir by coming to the first annual Fat Tuesday Pancake Dinner! The dinner will be Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 6:30-7:45pm in the Family Life Center. We will follow the meal with a Vesper Service for all that would like to attend. A freewill donation will be taken with all proceeds going to the maintenance of the church’s handbells.
Ash Wednesday is February 17 Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs 40 days (not counting Sundays) before Easter. Ash Wednesday gets its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of the faithful as a sign of repentance. The ashes used are gathered after the Palms from the previous year's Palm Sunday are burned. Ash Wednesday Services are Wednesday, February 17 at 7:00am and 7:00pm in the sanctuary.

Would you like to learn to quilt or just brush up on your quilting skills? The ZUMC Blanket Ministry will be hosting quilting classes every Wednesday in March at the “Quilt Cottage” at 5785 E. 500 S., Zionsville. The Blanket Ministry quilts are made to comfort those who are ill, facing surgery or a long recovery, lonely, or infirmed. You may also make a quilt to wrap around one of our littlest members at their baptism. These blankets are individually prayed over for the specific person who will be receiving them. God’s love fills each quilt that is sent out. We need to know who is coming so supplies and space can be made available. Fabrics can be furnished for those you’ll donate to the ministry or you can bring your own fabrics and supplies. Please make a reservation by Monday, March 1st. Just a desire to learn a new skill and the ability to laugh and fellowship are the only requirements for the class. For questions or reservations please call Pat at 873-3762 or e-mail her at: mcknightr@sbcglobal.net. Or call Barb at 769-6691 or e-mail her at maxsonbuild@hotmail.com.
Even the Youngest get Involved in Health Kits for Haiti: Two weeks ago, Carol Wietholter shared with her children’s Sunday School class about Pastor John’s challenge to the congregation to donate a certain amount of money for Haiti earthquake relief. After Carol talked with the children about the earthquake, one of her students, Jack Pensek, stood up and said, “I challenge our class to bring in 100 health bags!” Jack then went home and told his mom, Sarah, who said that if he really wanted to do it, they should make fliers for the neighborhood. Last Sunday, Jack shared that he had collected over 50 bags! He handed out fliers in his neighborhood, to his class at Union and to his dad’s work. How neat! Three of Jack’s Sunday school classmates have brought in 24 more bags! WOW! Way to go!
